Chapter 7. Recording Software Instruments > Adjusting Keyboard Sensitivity

Adjusting Keyboard Sensitivity

Not all MIDI keyboards are created equal, to coin a phrase. Some respond more deftly to the varying pressure of your skillful fingers than do others. If the lightest touch on your keyboard seems to make GarageBand scream, or if your heaviest pounding produces no more than a whisper, a new feature in GarageBand 2 allows you to do something about it. A Keyboard Sensitivity setting has been added to the Audio/MIDI tab in the GarageBand Preferences dialog. If you choose a higher Sensitivity setting, GarageBand will record a higher velocity level than your keyboard produces, giving every note a little extra oomph. Choosing a lower Sensitivity setting tells GarageBand to soften each of your keystrokes a bit.
