Chapter 6. Recording Real Instruments > Enabling a Track for Recording

Enabling a Track for Recording

If you plan to do multitrack recording, you will have to enable recording (a new feature in GarageBand 2) for each track that you want to receive an audio signal. You can enable up to eight Real Instrument tracks. If you exceed that number, the track farthest from the last track you enabled will be disabled. If you happen to enable two tracks that share the same input channel, you'll get an alert (Figure 6.19). To fix this problem, open the Track Info window for one of the offending tracks and choose a different channel from the Input menu (see “Adding a Real Instrument Track” in Chapter 3). You can enable a track only when GarageBand is idle or playing back a recording, not while recording is going on.
