Appendix A. Improving Performance

GarageBand is an immensely complex program; the amount of audio signal processing it can accomplish would have required a roomful of refrigerator-sized mainframe computers a decade or two ago. Not only does it perform massive amounts of sheer number crunching, but it also juggles the demands placed on various bits of hardware, including audio interfaces, sound cards, and MIDI controllers. This is hard work, even for a modern Mac, so don't be surprised if GarageBand sometimes stumbles a bit. What can you do to keep GarageBand running in tip-top shape?
