The GarageBand Interface

When you start GarageBand, a single large window gobbles up most of your screen (Figure 1.8). The window displays the contents of a single song; you can have only one song open at a time. Designwise, it owes much to its older sibling application, Soundtrack. The faux-walnut strips along each side are unique to GarageBand, however. Apparently, the designers meant to recall the look of 1960s audio hardware. Groovy!
