Chapter 13. Exporting and Importing > GarageBand and Other Applications

GarageBand and Other Applications

It's not easy to share native GarageBand files with the wider world. The only programs that can open native GarageBand song files (other than GarageBand itself, of course) are Logic Express 7 and Logic Pro 7, Apple's prosumer and professional music programs. The two Logic programs include the same Software Instruments and Apple Loops as GarageBand, so your songs should usually sound the same when played in Logic. If you plan on opening your GarageBand songs in Logic on a different computer than the one on which they were created, you need to make sure the same extra instruments and loops are installed on that computer. One way around this restriction is to export your song as an archive, which saves the song in a bundle with all the loop files used in the song (see “Saving a Song as an Archive” in Chapter 2).
