Chapter 11. Applying Effects > About the Master Track

About the Master Track

The master track is different from the tracks into which you record or into which you place loops. Unlike Real and Software Instrument tracks, it does not contain music, but it is the repository for a number of settings that affect your song as a whole. If you decide, after working on a song for a while, that you need to change any of its fundamental characteristics (its tempo, time signature, or key signature), you can do this in the master track's Track Info window. You use the master track's Track Info window to apply effects to the entire song. You can also use the master track to add volume or pitch changes over the course of a song by displaying and adjusting its track volume curve or its pitch curve (see “Working with the Master Track Automation Curves” in Chapter 12).
