Lesson 3. Understanding Workflow Techniques > Hiding Tracks (Logic Pro Only)

Hiding Tracks (Logic Pro Only)

Logic projects can get large, and it's common to have dozens of MIDI and audio tracks populating the Arrange window. With so many tracks competing for valuable screen real estate, you will sometimes want to hide certain tracks temporarily to get them out of the way. You'll still hear the hidden tracks, but they won't be visible in the Arrange window.

1.
In the Arrange window's upper left corner, click the Toggle Hide Edit button (sometimes also called the Hide View button).

The Toggle Hide Edit button turns from gray to teal green. In the Track List, an individual Hide button appears beside each track's name.

2.
Select the Hide buttons on all of the Arrange window's top three audio tracks.

As you select these Hide buttons, they turn green to match the color of the Toggle Hide Edit button, but the tracks are not yet hidden.

3.
In the Arrange window's upper left corner, click the Toggle Hide Edit button one more time.

The three audio tracks disappear from view, and the Toggle Hide Edit button turns orange. The orange color is important to note, because this is your visual clue that some Arrange window tracks are hidden.

More Info

The Toggle Hide Edit button has three color states: Gray indicates that no tracks are hidden; green shows the setup mode and displays the Hide buttons for all the tracks; and orange means that one or more tracks are hidden.

To unhide tracks (show them again), just reverse the process.

4.
Click the Toggle Hide Edit button once again.

The hidden tracks reappear.

5.
Deselect the tracks' Hide buttons.

6.
Click the Toggle Hide Edit button one last time to turn off Logic's Hide Tracks feature.
