Chapter 8. Using the Multitrack View

Chapter 8. Using the Multitrack View

The Multitrack view in Audition is analogous to a virtual tape recorder, but with all the advantages of digital editing and processing. You can blend sounds and clips using up to 128 tracks. You can add effects nondestructively. You can edit and re-edit with ease, without razor blades and splice tape—and with the ability to undo your work if you're not pleased with the results. The possibilities are vast, and you're going to want to get to know the Multitrack view intimately if you're serious about multitrack recording and mixing.

A multitrack session consists of a series of tracks, each of which contains audio clips. In this chapter, I'll discuss sessions, tracks, and clips in detail and the various ways you can configure them. I'll also show how to bring MIDI files into a multitrack session, add real-time effects to your tracks, use buses to group tracks together, and change mix settings over time by using envelopes.
