Chapter 2. Introduction To Digital Audio

Chapter 2. Introduction To Digital Audio

Digital audio teems with terms and concepts that might seem intimidating to someone who's never worked with it. It's a complex topic, and while it isn't necessary to become an expert in it to use tools like Audition and get great results, you'll need to become familiar with some basics so that you can manipulate digital audio intelligently.

In this chapter, I'll introduce some of the terms and concepts you should understand as you begin to use Audition—waveforms, analog and digital audio, sampling rate, bit depth, dithering, and MIDI—which will be relevant as you move forward through this book and into your work with Audition.
