Chapter 5. Editing Sound > Using the Zoom Controls

Using the Zoom Controls

When you're working on a waveform or a multitrack project, you'll often want to zoom in on the exact part of the display that you're working on for the utmost precision. You can find all the zoom tools you need in the Zoom window (Figure5.13). If you don't see the Zoom window, choose Window > Zoom Controls to check the option (unchecking it will hide the window again), or click the Hide/Show Zoom Controls button (Figure 5.14).

  • The Zoom In Horizontally button automatically zooms in on the center of the open waveform (in Edit view) or session (in Multitrack view).

  • The Zoom Out Horizontally button zooms out from the center of the open waveform or session. (If you cannot zoom out any farther, this button will be dimmed.)

  • The Zoom In Vertically button makes the open waveform taller in Edit view. In Multitrack view, it decreases the number of tracks visible in the Display window.

  • The Zoom Out Vertically button makes the open waveform shorter in Edit view. In Multitrack view, it increases the number of tracks visible in the Display window.

  • The Zoom to Selection button zooms in on the currently selected portion of a waveform or multitrack project.

  • The Zoom In to Right Edge of Selection button zooms in on the right side of the currently highlighted selection.

  • The Zoom In to Left Edge of Selection button zooms in on the left side of the currently highlighted selection.

  • The Zoom Out Full Both Axis button zooms out completely, so that all of the waveform or multitrack session information is visible in the Display window.
