Chapter 7. Using VST Instruments > Installing and Managing VST Instruments

Installing and Managing VST Instruments

Cubase comes with a set of its own VST instruments. These bundled VST instruments are automatically available the first time you run Cubase, and you don't need to worry about where they are installed. Over time, you'll probably add third-party VST instruments made by commercial software companies or shareware developers.

When you install a new VSTi, you'll need to follow the instructions that come with the software. Each installation procedure can have its own requirements. For example, in Windows, Cubase lets you designate a particular folder as the shared plug-ins folder. VST instruments are plug-ins, and this folder can provide a convenient way to keep track of your VST applications; VST effect plug-ins and VST instruments in this shared plug-ins folder will be available to any application that supports those protocols.
