Chapter 15. Rewire And Cubase

Chapter 15. Rewire And Cubase

Cubase is designed to be a complete audio and MIDI music production system, and you can use it from start to finish for many projects. Even so, there are some situations where additional tools might improve a project or make it easier to finish. Steinberg recognized early, though, that letting other developers create tools to work within Cubase would greatly extend what it can do. Its VST instruments, which you've already learned about, let developers create software-based sound generators that work inside Cubase.

In this chapter, you will learn how to configure Cubase as a ReWire master application and how to configure other ReWire-savvy applications as slaves and then share audio and MIDI with them. To illustrate the use of ReWire with Cubase, this chapter uses two third-party programs—Reason and Live—as examples. The discussion applies equally, however, to other ReWire applications you might use with Cubase.
