MIDI Recording Mode Options

One way in which working with MIDI is unlike working with audio is that you can add data—both notes and continuous controller data—to a MIDI track after it has been recorded. For example, when you're working with an audio track, you can't add an extra harmony note to an existing file; the harmony note must be recorded on a different audio track and then mixed with the original. Cubase has three different modes for recording MIDI: Normal, Merge, and Replace. You toggle the mode by clicking at the far left of the Transport bar (Figure 5.20).
