Chapter 5. Recording MIDI > Punching Out Using the Locators

Punching Out Using the Locators

Naturally, just as you can for audio recording, you can set MIDI recording to automatically punch out at a certain time. You can use the right locator to set a point in the project when all tracks will stop recording.

To automatically stop recording MIDI

1.
Set the right locator by doing one of the following:

  • Drag the right locator on the ruler (Figure 5.17).

Figure 5.17. Moving the right locator.

  • Double-click the right locator setting on the Transport bar and enter a position manually.

2.
On the Transport bar, click the Punch-Out button if it is not already active (Figure 5.18).

Figure 5.18. The Punch-Out button is selected; recording will automatically stop at the right locator.

3.
Start recording at a point in the project before the punch-out point.
