Recording MIDI Sysex Data

All MIDI devices understand note and CC data in pretty much the same way. However, the smart people who put together MIDI also realized that manufacturers would sometimes need to implement specialized abilities not covered by the basic MIDI specification. This data is called system-exclusive MIDI data, or sysex data for short.

Sysex data is MIDI data that can be understood only by the particular make and model of MIDI device that created it. For example, all synthesizers should respond to the CC data for volume in the same way, but sysex data from a Roland synth will do nothing when sent to a Waldorf synth.
