Chapter 18. Exporting & Rendering Tracks > Rendering Multiple Tracks

Rendering Multiple Tracks

The same basic rules used to render a single track apply when you need to render more than one track. Set up all of the tracks, with effects if you want them, so that the master output sounds exactly as you wish; then render to a new file. Rendering multiple tracks is useful in many musical contexts. For instance, you may want to create a single stereo file of a multiple-microphone drum part, or if you have multitrack backing vocals that you have edited, tuned, and tweaked to sound just right, you may want to create a single stereo file so you can control all of the backing vocals in the mix with one fader.

To render more than one track

1.
Set each track, including pan, level, and send and insert effects, so the master output sounds as you wish.

2.
Solo all of the tracks you want to include in, or mute all tracks you want to exclude from, the rendered file (Figure 18.14).

3.
Check to see that the master fader is set to 0.00 (Figure 18.15), unless you want the overall level of the rendered file to change.

4.
Set the left locator where you want the rendered file to start, and set the right locator where you want the rendered file to end.

5.
From the File menu, select Export > Audio Mixdown.

6.
In the Export Audio Mixdown dialog box, type a name for the rendered file and set the options you want. In this example, change the Channels setting to Stereo Interleaved to create a single file with two channels of audio (Figure 18.16).

7.
Click Save to start the file rendering process.
