Creating an Ogg Vorbis Mix

MP3 files are by far the most common type of compressed audio files in the world, but not everyone likes everything about them. One potential problem with MP3 files is that the format is patented and subject to license fees in some circumstances. Ogg Vorbis is an open-source, patent-free alternative for compressed audio. If you want more information about Ogg Vorbis files, a good place to start is www.vorbis.com.

The process for creating an Ogg Vorbis file in Cubase is almost exactly the same as for creating an MP3 file. Prepare the mix exactly as you wish, set the locators, choose File > Export > Audio Mixdown, and select Ogg Vorbis File from the drop-down menu (Figure 18.28). You then have the following options:
