Chapter 6. Entering MIDI Manually > Entering CC Data with the Draw Tool

Entering CC Data with the Draw Tool

Although you can use the various Line tool modes when creating or modifying MIDI CC data, you'll use the simple Draw tool most often when creating new data. For example, still using that eighth-note pulsing bass line, you can use the Draw tool to pan each note slightly to the left and right by entering CC data.

To enter CC data with the Draw tool

1.
Select the Draw tool by clicking it on the toolbar (Figure 6.40) or by right-clicking and selecting it from the contextual menu.

2.
Set the Controller lane so it displays the CC you want to edit. In this example, select Pan.

3.
Turn on Snap to create data according to meter. In this case, set Quantize to 1/8 Note.

4.
With the Draw tool, drag the Controller lane.

The bar being drawn with the pointer in Figure 6.41 shows the CC value entered.

5.
Repeat step 4 for each eighth note you want to modify.

Figure 6.42 shows CC data that pans each note alternately slightly to the left and slightly to the right.
