Chapter 6. Entering MIDI Manually > Creating a MIDI Part

Creating a MIDI Part

When you record MIDI data on a MIDI track in Cubase, the application automatically creates a MIDI part for the incoming data. However, when you enter MIDI notes using one of Cubase's built-in editors, you first need to create a part, or container, for it. There are two primary ways to create new, empty parts: with the locators and with the Draw tool.

To create a MIDI part using the locators

1.
In the Project window, set the left and right locators where you want the MIDI part to start and end (Figure 6.1).

Figure 6.1. The locators set to create a MIDI part.

You can set the locators by moving them on the ruler or by entering their locations on the Transport bar.

2.
Select the Object Selection tool (the arrow) and double-click the MIDI track, between the locators, where you want to create the new part.

A new, empty MIDI part is created and is selected (Figure 6.2).

Figure 6.2. After you double-click with the arrow, a one-bar part is created.
