Chapter 10. Editing MIDI > Copying Notes in the Key Editor

Copying Notes in the Key Editor

You can use the Key editor to copy a MIDI note or a group of notes. The following task shows you how to copy all notes in one measure to the next measure while using Snap to drop the copied notes precisely at the start of the next measure.

To copy MIDI notes

1.
Turn on Snap and set the Quantize value to a 1/4 note or so, to make the move easier.

2.
Select the Arrow tool if it is not already selected and drag over the notes that you want copied (Figure 10.18).

3.
With the notes selected, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click one of the selected notes.

4.
Drag the mouse to where you want to copy the notes.

A numeric display will show how far you have moved the copy from the original (Figure 10.19).

5.
When the copied notes are where you want them, release the mouse and then the Alt or Option key.
