Chapter 10. Editing MIDI > Changing Values in the Event List

Changing Values in the Event List

The List editor isn't the easiest editor to use, but it offers powerful control for editing MIDI data values. Other editors may be a bit more musical, but nothing can beat the List editor for control. Any of the parameters shown in the event list can be edited. In the following task, you will see how to change the pitch of a note.

To modify MIDI data in the event list

1.
Open the List editor. In the event list, click the MIDI event you want to edit.

The event will be highlighted (Figure 10.69). Note that you can widen this list view by grabbing and moving the line between the Event and Note windows.

2.
To edit a value, simply click it and enter a new value.

For example, clicking E3 (the pitch of the selected note) will select it for editing (Figure 10.70).

Figure 10.70. Clicking E3 allows the note value to be edited for this MIDI event.

You can enter values manually, or you can use the Up and Down Arrow keys on the keyboard to change values.

3.
Press the Down Arrow a few times to set the new note value to C3 (Figure 10.71).
