Additional Groove Quantizing Options

Because using a groove as a quantize source is a bit different than using an artificial, abstractly created grid, there are different options for it than for normal quantizing. Figure 10.64 shows the full Quantize Setup panel when a groove is selected in the Presets menu. The top half of the panel shows the options unique to groove quantizing.

  • The Position slider is a little like an extra iterative quantize function. It determines how much of the grid information is applied to the quantize destination.

  • Velocity determines how much, if at all, the velocity or volume of the notes in the groove source is applied to the destination. Often you will want to quantize only the timing, leaving the dynamics of the destination alone, but if you want to include the dynamics, you can use the slider to do so.

  • The Length slider determines whether the length of the notes being quantized is changed to match the groove quantize source. Again, generally this will be part of the destination you want to keep, but you can quantize lengths if you want.
