Chapter 10. Editing MIDI > About Snap and CC Editing

About Snap and CC Editing

You don't have to turn on Snap to create every type of CC data, but you must turn it on if you want to create CC data using the project tempo as a reference. Once Snap is on, the quantize setting determines the way CC data is created and visually displayed by the curves in the Controller lanes. Smaller Snap settings will create CC data that follows shorter meter divisions. The smaller the Snap value is for a CC that controls pan, the faster the sound will be panned left and right.

Another example would be if you are drawing a triangle wave. The Quantize setting determines the number of triangle shapes that are drawn in each measure. Figure 10.38 shows one measure being drawn with the triangle set to 1/4-note quantize. One triangle is created for each quarter-note.
