Chapter 14. Audio Effect Plug-Ins > Using Tempo-Synchronized Delays

Using Tempo-Synchronized Delays

DoubleDelay is one of many plug-ins with parameters that can be set to note values that automatically synchronize with the project tempo. Because so many plug-ins have tempo-based parameters, including many third-party plug-ins that are not covered in this book, it's worth looking at these a bit more closely. Most plug-ins use the same basic settings:

  • Straight, or “normal,” settings are simply the note values shown: 1/4 means a quarter-note, 1/8 means an eighth-note, and so on.

  • Dotted note values add half again to the duration of their note value. That is, a dotted eighth-note sets the parameter value to the duration of an eighth-note with a sixteenth-note tacked on the end of it.

  • Triplet settings result in a duration that is a third of the note value set. That is, a quarter-note triplet setting will set the parameter value to one-third the duration of a quarter-note.
