Good editors are as hard to find as good drummers, and for this book I was lucky enough to work, yet again, with Cary Norsworthy. If this book helps you, particularly if you are new to computer music, you should thank Cary. Thanks also to David Leishman for technical advice, and Judy Ziajka for working over my copy.

Rusty Cutchin was my editor at Home Recording Magazine, and while that magazine has folded, I owe special appreciation to Rusty for the work he gave me putting HR on newsstands. Vielen Dank to Stephan M. Sprenger and the rest of crazy Germans at Prosoniq who taught me volumes about software and development. Thanks also to Mary Tyler for getting new music to my ears, year after year, disc after disc. Levin Pfeufer earns special appreciation for the multiple, shape-shifting roles he played helping me with this book. He not only did the groovy illustrations, he also taught me survival InDesign skills and kept me fully loaded with dancehall mixes from the Canal Street Selector. Big up Lev!

As an American, I am almost genetically predisposed against state-owned media. Over the past year, this disposition has been sorely tested by the BBC digital radio station 1xtra. It's shameful that the corporate media in my country provides less variety and lower-quality music than does UK state owned media. I spent many of the hours revising this book for Cubase SX 2 listening to www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra, and I would like to give personal thanks Robbo Ranx, DJ Flight, Silver Star, L Double, Punjabi Hit Squad, Aaron Ross, Bailey, Femme Fatale, and Heartless Crew for keeping me company.
