Chapter 16. Recording MIDI > Recording MIDI

Recording MIDI

After all of this configuring and clicking and meandering about in Pro Tools, we can finally record a MIDI track.

To record a single MIDI track:

1.
If you don’t have a MIDI track in your session, select File > New Track, or Shift-Command-N.

The New Track dialog box appears.

2.
Select MIDI Track from the pop-up menu (Figure 16.11).

3.
Enter the number of tracks and click Create.

4.
As described earlier, select a MIDI channel input in the Mix window to record, and select the device and output; then click the Record-Enable button.

4.
Click the Record and Play buttons in the Transport window (just as if you were recording an audio track).

Play your MIDI controller, synthesizer, or other MIDI data-generating equipment (Figure 16.12).

5.
When you’re finished recording, click Stop.
