Chapter 2. Software Basics

Now that you’ve connected your Pro Tools LE hardware, you’re no doubt itching to lay down some tracks. But first, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with some Pro Tools LE software basics and configure the hardware.

This chapter will explain Pro Tools sessions. I’ll introduce you to the key elements of a session, including session files, audio files, audio and MIDI tracks, waveforms and regions, playlists, channels, and I/O Setup.

You’ll also learn how to configure your hardware, change the playback engine, and adjust the Digidesign Audio Engine (DAE) playback buffer to improve your system’s performance.
