15.1. General Aspects

This section addresses some general aspects related to video subjective testing—in principle, independent of the assessment method—notably, the criteria and procedure to select the test material and the test subjects, the definition of the laboratory setup, the specification of the test plan, and the procedures to train the subjects before the test.

In order to guarantee the validity of the results, a group of experts in formal subjective testing was in charge of designing and performing the tests, according to rigorous assessment methods. Moreover, the tests were (as much as possible) conducted in independent laboratories—that is, in laboratories not directly involved in the development of the tools under test. When independent laboratories were not available, the tests were duplicated to cross-check results.
