Summing Up

These new texturing features should help you get your texturing done faster and increase the realism in your rendering. Highlight Seams allows you to visualize the texture seam and better predict the results that will render. Paint Selection mode makes selecting texture coordinates easier. The Projection modifier gives you a way of transferring data from one object to another. Copying and pasting texture values is a much faster and more intuitive way of getting texture information from one material slot to another. Preserve Map Channels helps us better predict the mapping coordinates and make adjustments during the modeling stage. The Subsurface Scattering materials are a quick way of simulating light passing through an object. Later chapters will demonstrate some of the techniques introduced in this chapter. As with many of these new features, you should start off with simple explorations until you understand the basics, then play with exaggerated effects, and finally apply them to more elaborate scenes. These new tools can also be explored as you review the later chapters that cover aspects of rendering.
