Chapter 2. what's new in modeling > TurboSmooth Modifier

TurboSmooth Modifier

You already are familiar with the MeshSmooth modifier and how it subdivides your mesh to smooth it. TurboSmooth is similar to MeshSmooth in the way it works, but it consumes less memory and performs much faster.

TurboSmooth helps speed up the standard subdivision surface box-modeling technique. As you know, sub-D modeling allows you to make an object with only a few polygons and turn it into a model four times smoother with each iteration (Figures 2.17 and 2.18). For example, a single iteration subdivides a cube into a 24-sided object (6 sides times 4). Every subsequent iteration subdivides four more times. It only takes a couple of iterations for a cube to look like a sphere.
