Chapter 21. Compositing > Taking Your Exercises Farther

Taking Your Exercises Farther

  • Duval Street— You can matte out the large tree on the left to help make the saucer look bigger, as it will fly above all the trees. Import the jet fighter (used in the motion blur examples) to chase after the saucer, or animate some vehicles in the street to really sell the scene!

  • The Laboratory— The glow effect should be lowered during the lightning strike. It will require a trip to the Dope Sheet/Curve Editor, and some drilling down through the object layers to find the Glow parameter. You would want to use a square-wave type curve so that the glow drops immediately.

  • Motion Blur— Experiment with the settings and the frame rates of your animations to see how motion blur can be used to smooth out fast motion, or to give a dreamlike quality to a scene. Try compositing a non-motion-blurred animation on top of one that has a high degree of motion blur to see how that effect might be used. Don't hesitate to use motion blur for single-frame illustrations; it can help to convey rapid motion even in only one frame!
