Organic Modeling with Spline Cages and Patch Surfaces

An office-chair cushion serves as the example in this chapter as you learn the fundamentals of modeling with spline cages and patches. You learn to attach the 2D shapes that describe the cushion surface into a compound shape, to modify them to add cross-sections to build the cage, and then add a surface to the cage. You will further adjust this surface with Bézier handles, and finally, you will mirror the half cushion and clean it up for a complete cushion.

Learn the process, and then try some objects on your own that would benefit from an organic appearance—you might try automobile parts, faces, or a computer mouse, for example.
