Key Terms

  • UVW Map— A modifier that enables you to apply mapping coordinates to specific sizes.

  • Multi/sub-object material— A material type composed of any number of submaterials to a limit of 1,000. This must be used in conjunction with material ID numbers.

  • Material ID number— A number assigned to individual faces that determine which material of a multi/sub-object material is applied.

  • Shader— A material attribute that describes the shape of specular highlights in a material.

  • Decal— A map with a transparent background used within a material to reveal the underlying color (much like the stick-on decals of model airplanes and so on).

  • Self-illumination— A material attribute that overrides the shaded ambient portion of a material and makes it appear to glow from within.

  • IFL files— Image File List; a sequentially numbered list of still images that function as an animated file in 3ds max 6.
