  • Material— Materials are applied to objects to control attributes such as color, shininess, opacity, and bumpiness, for example. Several different material types are available in 3ds max 6.

  • Maps— Maps are patterns used within the attributes of materials. These can be procedural or a variety of image formats. Many different map types are available.

  • Material library— Material libraries act as storage areas for materials and maps so that they can be accessed from any scene.

  • Luminance value— This is the brightness values of individual pixels of maps that 3ds max 6 uses to create illusions such as bumps or opacity in a material.

  • Specular highlights— Specular highlights refer to light scattered from a surface. This is one of the most important attributes of materials.
