In This Chapter

In this chapter, you learn to light the shipyard scene that you constructed in Chapter 5, “Creating Convincing Terrain,” to simulate bright sunlight. You will use the standard lights lighting type in conjunction with the default Scanline renderer of 3ds max 6.

Standard lights are fast, with a minimum of mathematical overhead to process. However, unlike photometric lights that you will learn about in Chapter 12, “Photometric Lighting: Bounced Light Calculation,” there is no bounced light from the surface of objects as there is in the real world.
