Chapter 5. Creating Convincing Terrain > Creating Low-Polygon Trees

Creating Low-Polygon Trees

As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, 3ds max 6 enables you to create trees in many ways, varying from tree images mapped to flat planes to complex, botanically correct forests. All the methods have pluses and minuses that you must weigh for your production needs, keeping in mind that you can mix tree types in a scene to strike a balance that works for you.

note

This chapter covers the modeling of these trees, and they will look rather unconvincing. In Chapter 7, “Introduction to Materials and Mapping,” you add materials that turn them into much more pleasing objects in the rendered image.
