Part: IV Appendixes > Import/Export from LightWave to Maya

Import/Export from LightWave to Maya

For translating between LightWave and Maya, a good choice is Polytrans, a program by Okino (http://www.okino.com; see Figure B.3). Its Maya version works directly within Maya and can import .lwo (object files) and .lws (scene files). Polytrans supports translating nearly every part of your scene between LightWave and Maya, including animation, cameras, lights, hierarchies, basic materials, and polygon objects. At the time of this writing, the Polytrans utility sells for about $800. Another popular alternative is from The Beaver Project, at http://www.thebeaverproject.com.

Figure B.3. Okino's Polytrans 3D translation utility offers many options for LightWave file conversion.
