Plan B

Nearly a week after our project-planning meeting, I came home tired after a long day of work and decided it was time for a nap. Evening naps for me are rare, but I knew that my wife would surely wake me so I wouldn't miss our favorite show. I had almost an hour available until showtime, and the kids were already in bed, so I was going to put it to some real use. I'd nap, watch The West Wing, and then knuckle down and come up with a suitable story idea.

The problem with my plan was that I'd thought it all the way through. Trying to go to sleep when expecting to later think about a problem is practically a written invitation to think about it now instead of later—so that's what I did.
