Summary

The material in this chapter is meant to serve as an introduction to Maya's Node based Architecture and should create a strong foundation to begin understanding that Maya simply works as a toolbox of transform and compute nodes with data being passed between those nodes through connections between attributes. Really understanding what node connections are and how they can be used is vital to completing Chapter 13, “Making Advanced Connections.” In addition, really understanding transforms and shapes will prove to be priceless when doing the character setup and rigging exercises later in the book. Having a foundation of nodes and knowing how to connect their attributes is a basic building block for creating shaders, creating character rigs, writing MEL scripts and expressions, and so much more.
