Node Types

Every node that exists has a type. All node types are registered with Maya if the capability to create the node exists. The node type is stored in the shape node of the object, not the transform node. The transform node is always just universally of the type transform. A node cannot have “no” type. The closest thing to having no node type is being of type unknown (which, by the way, still seems to be a type). The easiest way to interactively see the node types in your Maya scene is to type the following into the Script Editor:

nodeType `ls -sl`;
