Chapter 7. Methods > Handle the Ups and Downs

Handle the Ups and Downs

When you're driving along in your car and hit a pothole, it's usually quite unexpected. The road's designer didn't put it there to jar you into alertness. Most of the bumps and voids (tunnels excepted) along the road are the result of thousands of vehicles and the onslaught of the elements. But when you build a road in Maya, you are the road's designer, builder, traffic, and weather all rolled into one. Each hole and bump is yours to shape, to give your viewer's eyes precisely the ride you intend.

In this section, we look at techniques for creating features such as holes and bumps in both NURBS and polygonal geometry.
