Chapter 6. Formats > What's Not Available

What's Not Available

Although Maya provides a broad range of modeling formats, not every possible format is represented. For completeness, this section covers a few modeling formats that aren't available within Maya. Each has it strengths and applications, but none of these has yet found its way into the product.

Implicit (Blobby) Surfaces

Blobby surfaces work well with organic shapes because they are designed to smoothly blend shapes into each other. Operating by a few basic rules, they typically involve placing smooth primitives (usually spheres) in proximity to each other and then specifying parameters for the blending operation. Maya allows particles to be rendered as blobbies, but it has no specific modeling operations for constructing ordinary models from them.
