Chapter 10. Characters > Creating Spot and The Jerk

Creating Spot and The Jerk

Now it is time to manifest our designs into a real model. The next section covers the process of creating Spot and The Jerk. You will do things such as create a custom modeling shelf to speed up your production, and then move on to sculpting the shapes of the characters using subdivision surfaces. You will hopefully gain insight into the relatively easy process of fleshing out form to the more nuanced art of sculpture.

Getting Started

Before we set out to build our models, we're going to take advantage of the high level of customization in Maya and create our own modeling menu shelf. It's beneficial to create your own modeling menu shelf for projects in which you'll be using a small number of controls often. By customizing your menu shelf, you can access those controls that you use most often, without digging into menu after menu.
