Summary

The character setup pipeline is a process and a workflow for integrating your character into your studio's pipeline so that it can eventually be animated, textured, lit, and rendered. It is not only the process of character setup and rigging, but in fact it is the entire structure which exists around rigging as well as the actual steps involved with doing it. Of course, many little details involved with rigging a character demand special techniques and processes; these are discussed in Chapter 17, “Rigging Characters for Animation.” The most important thing to remember is the entire process of rigging a character must take place within a nonlinear workflow so that other portions of the digital studio pipeline can continue to function as necessary.
