The Principles of Animation

It seems that there are no rules in animation. Any rule you can name can have both an animation that is both successful and one that breaks the rules you cite. So, it seems that we will have no clear guidance in how to construct an animation.

However, the animation researchers at Disney in the 1920s and 1930s put together a series of principles, not rules, to help guide the animator in planning and making the animation. These principles are based on research and testing done during those days. They remain intact even now by all considered masters in animation. Let's take a look at these principles to help understand how they can inform our animation.
