Character setup: Rigging. Boning. Chaining. Binding. Skinning. Enveloping. Puppeteering. Articulating. These are just some of the computer graphics industry's terms used to describe the processes that a character setup artist or technical director (TD) is involved in from day to day. Character setup is, most simply, the creation of an inner skeletal structure with easily accessible character deformation controls that enable animators to quickly and intuitively breathe life into the body of a character through animation.
