Project Overview

This chapter takes you into the world of particle animation in LightWave. You’ll start with the basics, so you can familiarize yourself with how the Particle FX controls integrate directly in Layout. From there, you’ll apply surfacing to particles using Hypervoxels to create bubbles as in Figure 19.1. Then, you’ll learn about SasLite, the lite version of Steve Worley’s Sasquatch fur and hair plug-in. SasLite is a stripped-down version included with LightWave 7. You’ll learn how to create basic fur on simple objects, and then step up to creating fields of grass. From there, you’ll learn how to apply hair to different parts of a character’s body. In this chapter, you will do the following:

  • Create particle animations

  • Add surfaces to particles with Hypervoxels

  • Use Clip Maps to quickly and easily animate bubbles

  • Use SasLite to create a grassy knoll

  • Add hair to a full character
