Chapter 3. LightWave 7 Modeler > Modeling Methods

Modeling Methods

Modeler is more than a tool used to create geometric shapes. Many of the tasks performed in Layout also can be done in Modeler, such as surfacing, morph targets, and skeletal setups. This is because Modeler offers various types of vertex maps. At the lower-right side of the Modeler interface, you’ll see three small buttons labeled W, T, M (see Figure 3.7). These letters stand for Weight Map, Texture, and Morph, respectively. These three types of vertex maps are easily accessible directly on the Modeler interface. Other vertex maps, such as Color Vertex are quite useful as well but are found under the Map tab.

Figure 3.7. Three of LightWave’s vertex maps can be created easily from the Modeler interface: Weight, Texture, and Morph.
