Basic IK Usage

The hierarchical structure used in an IK system is called an IK chain. IK chains in LightWave can be composed of any item capable of existing in a hierarchy. When using an IK chain, LightWave internally computes the rotations of each item in the chain based on the position of a goal object (see Figure 13.4). The result of this internal calculation is called a solution. The process of reaching the solution is referred to as solving, or being solved for.
