Chapter 4. LightWave 7 Layout

Just about everything can be animated in LightWave 7. Because of this, it is crucial for you to plan your projects. Knowing ahead of time what you want to create helps you decide how to create it. The tools in Layout are extraordinary and powerful, and knowing what they can do and how they do it is a benefit to you and your projects. Before that, however, you need to be familiar with the basic Layout environment, keyframing, and animation setup types. This chapter steps you through the simpler aspects of Layout. Specifically, this chapter discusses the following:

  • The animation environment

  • Keyframing

  • Constructing scenes

  • Using the Scene Editor

  • Understanding Motion Mixer for nonlinear animation

Although these aspects are simple, the concepts here are the foundation for moving ahead and creating more complex objects and animations.

In the simplest terms, 3D objects are created in LightWave’s Modeler. LightWave’s Layout is used to put these objects in motion.
